Day 1: Feb 8th
Leonardo Da Vinci Gliders
Today, these two artists discussed and sketched things with wings: eagles, backyard birds, planes, rockets, gliders, etc. And why they have them. We discussed Leonardo da Vinci and took at the look at some flying machines that he designed in his sketchbook, especially his gliders that would allow people at attach themselves to it and soar through the air! It was east to notice how the gliders were planned to have stable "skeletons" to hold the wings together. They created their own after learning how to make the paper wings by folding a paper and drawing half of their glider on the folded half. After cutting it out they get the symmetrical glider shape! Tacky glue was used to attach the different sizes of wood pieces/ toothpicks/ popsicle sticks. Since there were only 2 artists tonight, they got to choose how to decorate their creations. One chose paint & markers and the other chose collage & markers.
