Art Teacher
Ages 4-8
Session 2: Nov. 2, 9, 30, Dec 7, Dec 14 ( no class Nov. 16 & 23)
Day 1: Nov 2nd
Day 2: Nov 9th
Today, these artists revisited urban, suburban, and rural communities and chose one to represent in a 3D cardboard sculpture. They have numerous sized food boxes to choose from as well as toilet paper and paper towel tubes. They organized their pieces on a large cardboard base and glued them down and then painted with acrylic paint.
Day 3: Nov 30th
Today, these artists will add on to their painted communities with mixed media objects: tissue paper, beads, felt, construction paper, marker, etc. They will develop their buildings even further and turn them into specific shops, restaurants, houses, etc. For the second half of class, the artists will create clay cars, people, animals, plants, etc. to add to their creations. The clay will be air dry and ready to be painted next class.
Day 4: Dec 7th
Today was a continuation of Day 3. First half of class, the artists kept adding to their cardboard communities and the second half of the class they created clay objects which will dry and be painting Day 5.
Session 1: Sept 21- Oct 19th
These young artists will be exploring many art mediums: drawing, painting, collaging, sculpture, felt. The main theme will be Patchwork Quilts. They will be exploring how each “patch” section can be about very specific things, but when all of the pieces are connected together it is a story of their life, thoughts, and experiences. On the last day of this session, these young artists will be finishing up and assembling their own paper quilts to bring home.

Day 1: Sept 21st
When the young artists arrived, they experimented with texture and color mixing on paper that will be later developed next class.
Next, we discussed silhouettes. Facial profiles were traced and filled with images that represented each artist (first with pencil and then sharpie).

Day 2: September 28th
These young artists started off by adding watercolor to their profile silhouettes.
Then we talked about blocking off parts of our texture paintings with tape and painting over it to create interesting patches for our quilts.
Towards the end of class, ink and dip pens were brought out to experiment with before next class.

Day 3: October 5th
Today, three of my personal ink drawings were shown as examples for how to use the different pens and brushes.
lThe young artists sketched out drawing ideas:
1. Their dog on a log with smiley face flowers
2. A peacock in the forest with falling leaves
3. An old girlfriend on the playground
4. A girl with a cupcake, stars, and hearts (inspired by my drawing)
