The High Meadow School Summer Art Camp
Cardboard Sculptures
July 9-13th
Ages 10-13
2.5 hour classes
Day 1:
These artists started day one with the Marshmellow challenge. They worked together to try and build their own successful free standing sculptures. Then they were shown how to use an xacto knife, glue gun, and different cardboard attaching techniques. They had the option to create a free standing sculpture, a hanging sculpture, a mounted sculpture, or more of a diorama. They sketched out their ideas and got to work.
Day 2:
The artists continued to work on their ideas and pace themselves to be able to finish by Friday.
Met see the beginnings of a cityscape, a diner, a truck, and a surrealist lightbox.

Day 3:
Mixed Media materials are available such as: paint, tissue paper, construction paper, markers, fabric, clay, etc.
Day 4:
The projects are beginning to come to life!
Day 5:
it is the final day to finish these cardboard sculptures. Finishing touches were added to the diner such as mini menus and a pastry display case with painted clay macaroons, muffins, and cake. The city scene now tells the stories of many inhabitants, like a child selling lemonade, a woman hanging laundry on the rooftops, and two people looking at the sunset. The giant cardboard semi truck now has a moveable forklift companion and multiple boxes. The surrealist light box glows with a green light and has shelves that have a Salvador Dali inspired clock, a vase, and some cardboard books.
